Free Music Distribution – Which Website is Best?

music distribution

Before I started recording and making my own music, I never realized how much work went into making a single song. The whole process, from writing to distributing, can take several hours. But when you get to hear the final product and have it available to buy on several platforms, it is a great moment. Since you’re reading this, I assume you’re interested in recording and distributing your own music. Whether you are simply doing it as a hobby, or a way to make money, there are several ways of going about the process of getting your music distributed. The traditional way takes a bit longer and involves finding a distribution company willing to distribute your music, the shorter way is for you to do it for yourself. For times sake, I will assume you already have a studio setup or a studio that you can record in. If you don’t have one, check out my article on how to setup a beginner studio at home.

The type of music you are making will determine the process you will follow. For example, if you are making rock or country music, you might have to record each instrument separately and piece it together. But, if you are planning on making electronic beats, you will only have to record the vocals and you will lay it over the beats you make. If you plan on making electronic beats, make sure you have the right equipment. You will need more than just the regular home studio setup because you will need a way to actually make the beats, and regular recording software won’t do that.

You will almost always start with the actual songwriting though, which is almost always the hardest part for me. Getting into the right mindset can be difficult, and writer’s block can be all too real. But once you get the song written and you know how you want the tune you are ready to move forward and start practicing and getting ready to record. Recording can look different for different people and different music. Some people will choose to record lots of different versions of the same line and pick the best one and some people will practice over and over and only record the final product. Check out my article on the equipment you will need to make your own beats at home.

Either way, once you are done recording and editing, you will then have to decide how you want to distribute it. You could always post it on youtube, or soundcloud, but it is really hard to make money that way when everyone can just listen to it for free. To make money, you’ll also have to get it on itunes, Google play, and places like that. The fastest and easiest way to do this is using One Way Distro. One Way Distro is a free digital music distribution site that will automatically distribute your music to several different platforms, like iTunes.

Once you start bringing in money, you can withdraw the funds directly from the website and keep up to 90% royalties on all of your music. I have had a better experience using One Way Distro than any other music distribution method. It’s very easy to set up an account and they have great customer support, so any problems you have are quickly resolved.

If you have music that you are just itching to get released One Way Distro can be used to make that a reality. Anybody can use the site and it is totally free.
